Helping Schools Celebrate Heritage and Identity

An education that promotes the racial identity of all children is in the interest of society.


Making classroom spaces welcoming, inclusive, safe and caring for all children is the foundation for the formation of healthy Identities in all children. 


This means celebrating and embracing the diverse heritages of children, which creates a positive acceptance of themselves as well as a feeling of belonging and connection to their school and community.

We must teach the way students learn rather than expecting them to learn the way we teach.

The training covers five topics that are segmented into modules. These are:


  • Beginning with you
  • Building meaningful partnerships with parents
  • Promoting children’s mental health and wellbeing
  • Building self-esteem and positive identity
  • Celebrating cultural identity

  • Is the curriculum I am delivering supportive of positive racial identity?
  • Who is not being addressed or included in this lesson?
  • Can I build on my lessons to make it more engaging?
  • How might my beliefs about this topic, lesson, and/or practice differ from those of my students and their families? Does this practice privilege my values over theirs?

... Our trainee teachers were inspired by her powerful words on the importance of pupil identity, and embraced the practical ideas of how they might enable pupil voice in their own teaching practices. We look forward to inviting Bianca to speak to our students again ...
